The Scene (Dylan Hart Odyssey of The Occult #1) by R.M. Gilmore

The Scene (Dylan Hart Odyssey of The Occult, #1)
"It did seem a little ridiculous that two female reporters were headed off to solve
a crime that no detective could. The entire thing began to sound like a cheesy
made for TV movie, where good defeats evil, and all is well.
I still wasn't one-hundred percent sure what the evil was in this story.
If I am supposed to be the good, how the hell am I supposed to defeat the evil?
A stake and hammer might do the trick." - Dylan Hart

In the opening novel of R.M. Gilmore's 'Odyssey of the Occult' series, we find
Dylan Hart, journalist and self-proclaimed cynical bitch, in her hometown of Hollywood, California. The bodies of seven exsanguinated prostitutes have been found naked and covered in puncture wounds in towns from the Central Valley to Southern California.
The media has dubbed them the "Vampire Massacres".
Dylan has decided to cash in on the tragedy and write a true crime novel.
She begins her odyssey with research into the underground vampire scene.
All seemed to be going as planned, and as long as fiction can keep its ass away from fact, she should be alright.

But let's face it, someone is draining women of all their blood.
There is no way in hell it's going to end pretty.

Review:
I really enjoyed this book. The main character was a no nonsense type of girl. She is ruff, well maybe too rough. You can tell from things said that she has been hurt in the past but no specifics. I really liked Mike and felt sorry for him about his feelings for Dillion, and how she treated him but never got the details of why they were not together anymore. The characters were very likeable as the role they played. I kept waiting for the "real" vampires to show up but it wasn't that kind of book, but still the story did not disappoint me. When the guilty party is revealed in the end it was a little surprising at first but stayed with in the story line. I can't wait to see where the second book goes.

Devastation (Built on Fear #1) by Shandy L. Kurth

Devastation (Built on Fear, #1)
Devastated by a seemingly unforeseeable attack, America is shattered by a military that is the least likely of suspects. In the aftermath, American civilians are left to run, hide, die or fight, pushing through all weakness in their effort to stay alive. Fighting against all odds, seventeen year old Fallon and twelve year old Emery struggle through a nightmare they can't wake from in order to save their younger siblings. Collecting others along the way, and enduring obstacles unfathomable in their innocence, the kids trek cross country to reach The Safe Zone, a fortified area rumored to be set up in the south. Fallon and his friends aren't even sure there is a Safe Zone though. They could be running for nothing. Never remaining in one place for too long in their attempt to avoid bombings and capture, the kids fight against attack, the elements, sickness and their overwhelming sense of desperation, pushing each other to the limit as they struggle to survive this land of devastation.

Review:
This book was a great read. Very fast paced and full of action. It shows you what would happen if the US was invaded by a unlikely country. My heart was in my throat most of the time. Nothing like your country being invaded to get your heart beating fast. Alliances are made, stretched, and broken. It gives you a glimpse into peoples character and how adults and "children" react in times of crisis. I was left wanting more.

Try Me (One Night with Sole Regret #1) by Olivia Cunning

Try Me (One Night with Sole Regret, #1)
For the five sexy rock gods of Sole Regret, finding love is easy, keeping it is hard.

Melanie has no desire to meet the members of the rock band, Sole Regret, but her groupie of a best friend gets them both backstage and then rushes off with the band’s lead singer. Left alone at an after party with a bunch of scary tattooed and pierced metal-heads, sheltered Melanie is relieved when the only normal-looking guy in the room insists on keeping her company.

By the time Melanie discovers that Gabe is the band’s drummer and not as normal as she assumed, she has already made a complete fool of herself. She can’t help but be interested in him, not as a rock star, but as the sexiest man she’s ever encountered. Strangely attracted to his hidden tattoos and body piercing, she wonders what it would be like to spend a night with a bad boy.

Gabe is more than willing to show sweet Melanie there’s more to him than meets the eye. All she has to do is try him. Will they only share a single night of passion? Or will their hearts entangle as quickly as their bodies?

Try Me is the first erotic novella in Olivia Cunning’s One Night with Sole Regret series.

Contains explicit sex, graphic language, and a hot rock star with a naughty and inventive mind.

Review:
I loved this book. The characters were very likeable and personable. The story was very fast paced. Lots of steam in this story. I could see that this could be a real day in the life of someone. Overcoming stereotypes is a main theme in this book. I was left wanting more.

Indie Soul Summer Giveaway

Indie Authors need to design and market their book. Most times, they they can’t do it all on their own. Bloggers and reviewers are key, but not only that, designers who love books, know book design and are eager to help indie authors dream out loud, is pretty important for an Author.

Victoria Faye, owner of Whit&Ware Design is just one of those designers! In fact, her tagline is “DREAM OUT LOUD AT ALL TIMES” ( and btw, She’ll be at the UPTOPYACON 2013 event speaking on the panel for Cover Design on June 28th!)
Why did you start Whit&Ware Design?
I love books and I love design, and it was kind of an accident that I was able to put the two together.  Now that I have though, its been an amazing ride. Indie Authors are  so full of this creative energy. I love that when I start talking to them about their books, I get all this “juice” and can’t wait to design for them . Its great for me because I get to feed off it.
Why the giveaway:
I’ve gotten to connect with so many cool indie souls just the last few months that I’ve been doing book design (readers , bloggers, authors). Essentially they are the ones who’ve made it possible for me do to what I love ALL THE TIME! So, basically, I wanted to celebrate that.
Besides, it’s summer, why not do something just for fun?
I got together with Indie-Visible to put this giveaway together  because I think we all understand the and get the indie soul – we want to create and produce what we love freely, that’s worth celebrating!

First Bite (Darkwood Manor #1) by Khelsey Jackson

First Bite (Darkwood Manor, #1)
Victoria is a vampire, but she doesn't sparkle and she doesn't drink animal blood. Her mother, a doctor, sneaks out "take-out" bags of blood from the hospital. When Victoria is sent to Darkwood Academy for a chance of a normal life, she must fight her instincts to feed on a fascinating boy with bright green eyes as she hopes he will make it through her first bite.

My Review:
I loved this book. You immediately feel a connection with the main character Victoria. The story has a lot of heart and the complaining of a typical teenager. The story line was great and the character development was great. The temptation and the twists and turn in the story line make it a great book. The shocker at the end left me hear broken. I was left with a sense of sadness and longing to see where the story goes from here.

Creation and Destruction (Sun and Moon 3 & 4)
This is parts three and four of the Sun and Moon novelette series.

My Review:
This is the Second book to the Sun and Moon. I read the first book and the second did not disappoint me. The story still flowed very well for me. The characters were still very likeable and I cared about them already from reading the first book. When one of the main characters was upset I felt like they weren't sad enough. I think I just wanted them to care more then they did. When they fought the "bad" guy it seemed too easy but makes sense when reading the rest of the book. At the end was a HUGE cliffhanger for me but you can believe I will be back for more!!!

My Review:I loved this book. Vampires, Empathies, Were-cats oh my...From the minute I started reading I couldn't put it down. The characters are very likeable and the story flowed very smooth. Seeing someone who feels all alone in the world find people/beings who accept and love her for who/what she is was wonderful. Everyone wants to be accepted that way. Her relationship with James the vampire grew very quickly but didn't have over the top heat. I'm looking forward to the other books in the trilogy.

Sun And Moon by Elizabeth Paradise

This is parts 1 & 2 of the Sun and Moon four part series.

Joining: Joining is the tale of a sixteen year old girl named Emily who was born without magic in a land where you're ranked by how powerful your talents are.
She wakes one day after an intense dream, and crazy things begin to happen to her. Will she be able to stay grounded when nothing seems to be going as she planned? This is the day that changed her life for ever.

Fire, Ice, and Fear: Emily, Ashe, Blaze, and Raelyn journey through their city in search of Predilon, a creator who plans to destroy their land. Blaze and Raelyn must cope with no longer being able to use their magic, and their attractions to Emily and Ashe. Emily and Ashe must learn to use their new abilities to capture Predilon. The entire group must face the things they fear the most to continue to move forward with their task.

Each is a tale that describes a chain of events in the magical city of Trillody. It is fantasy, with a touch of romance, combined to create an adventure that will leave you craving more.

My Review:
This was a quick but good read. The story flowed smooth and the characters were very likeable. I loved how it was a twist of fate. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

The Reborn By Casse NaRome

Dain has lived a total of ninety-nine different lifetimes and in every single one, he has loved the same girl. But now Tara is gone, and in her place stands Bonnie, the complete opposite of Tara.

Is Dain's shot at love over or has he lived all these lives because he has loved the wrong girl all along?

Review:
This book was a good read. I was intrigued from the start of it. Loved the instant attraction he felt even though he didn't remember her. The characters were very likeable and had lots of secrets. Discovering that there were more couples like them was exciting. Finding that Dain was falling for Bonnie was awesome. Sometimes love doesn't have to end it just changes. And the secrets just kept coming out. At the end of the book I was like what? No? That's the end? It cant be?! I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.
